Gene Family: HOPS complex (VPS)

Also known as : "homotypic fusion and protein sorting complex"
A subset of : VPS-C complexes

HOPS complex:: The HOPS tethering complex regulates late-endosomal tethering and shares several subunits with the CORVET complex that regulates early endosomal tethering. The membrane-targeting module in HOPS binds RILP (Rab interacting lysosomal protein). VPS11 acts as a molecular switch that binds either the CORVET complex specific TGFBRAP1 or HOPS specific VPS39/RILP thereby allowing selective targeting of these tethering complexes to early- or late endosomes to time fusion events in the endo/lysosomal pathway. The VPS33B encoded protein was initially shown to interact with HOPS subunits but it is now thought to form a separate complex with VIPAS39.
