Recycling through the trans-Golgi network (TGN) and to the plasma membrane is facilitated by the Golgi associated retrograde protein (GARP) and endosome-associated recycling protein (EARP) complexes, respectively. The exchange of the VPS54 subunit in GARP to VPS50 [also known as VESA-1/syndetin] in EARP causes localization of the complex to RAB4-positive recycling endosomes, which promote constitutive recycling of proteins such as the transferrin-receptor.
