These genes are part of a separate but similar family to the ADAMs so we will maintain the same stem symbol, with the addition of "TS". However, the gene name is slightly different as there is no proof that the disintegrin is functional. Following an original request from the MEROPS database to standardise our gene names with the use of the term peptidase, in place of both protease and proteinase, we posted a recent "Hot Topic" on our webpage, where the responders also agreed with this move. Hence we have decided to phase out use of the terms 'protease' and 'proteinase' in favour of the umbrella term, 'peptidase'. As such the ADAMTS gene names were revised, with the consent of our Specialist Advisor Dr Apte, on 18th August 2005.
