Gene Family: Calcium homeostasis modulators (CALHM)

Calcium homeostasis modulators:: These genes encode ion channel proteins that are regulated by membrane voltage and extracellular Ca2+ concentration. A CALHM1 channel is a hexamer of CALHM1 monomers. CALHM genes are expressed in primate taste buds, exclusively in type II cells. [Source: Ma et al, 2016]
